Handling and Storing Trackers

If cared for correctly, trackers can be reused for years. That said, they are also small and breakable.

As a rule of thumb, handle trackers like smartphones. Avoid dropping or losing them.

When trackers are not installed in a vehicle, they should be kept in a designated storage space. To ensure they can continue to communicate with the network while in storage, trackers should be kept indoors near a window, or outdoors in an appropriately sheltered bin.

To determine what to do with a stray tracker found in the office, on the ground or elsewhere:

  • First, look up its ID number in the Trackers tab of the desktop interface.
    • If it is not associated with any vehicle, return the tracker to the closest storage bin.
    • If it is associated with a vehicle, do a reconciliation with your DMS to confirm whether the vehicle is still in inventory. If so, have your team find the vehicle and see if it has a different tracker installed (in which case you will need to look up that tracker ID to determine where it is supposed to be.)
