LotVision's mobile interface helps significantly with locating vehicles on a busy lot. However, there may be times when a location appears to be inaccurate and requires some investigation.
To troubleshoot difficulties with locating vehicles:
- First, check your Internet connection. If you are not getting a good signal the interface may show zero results on the map, or might not show your current location correctly.
- Next, be sure to check one spot over, behind you, and across the aisle. The LotVision system uses GPS for accuracy which can fluctuate based on many conditions, so the vehicle may be nearby.
- Check the vehicle's status for anything that may cause its location to be inaccurate.
- The color of the icon will change to red if the tracker is sending an error code. If this is the case, the vehicle's position on the map might be inaccurate. Have a quick look around and, if you cannot find it, follow up with your manager.
- An alert bar labelled "motion" means the vehicle may be moving currently. LotVision doesn't update locations every single second, so if someone is driving the vehicle around it may have moved from the displayed position.
- An alert bar labelled "drive-off" or something similar indicates that the vehicle may have left the property. LotVision will show its last known location before going out of range, which may be misleading.
- An alert bar labelled "indoors" means the gateway receiver is picking up its signal, but the tracker cannot get a GPS location. This sometimes happens when a vehicle is literally inside a building, but can also happen if the tracker gets buried deep underneath a seat.
- If none of these tips help, contact your manager. It is possible that the tracker is having an issue or was associated with the wrong vehicle in the database, which could cause it to appear in the wrong location on the map.
