How to create and remove the relationship between a tag and an asset within the system.
The Cognosos portal provides multiple inroads for attaching and detaching trackers. When a vehicle and tracker are attached, it means that tracker has been physically placed in the automobile, and both the vehicle and tracker have been defined within the system with a relationship between the two. Users with the role of Standard and Administrator have access to this feature.
Attaching or detaching the trackers arises from various needs: vehicle does not currently have a tracker attached; vehicle has gotten a new tracker; a tracker has become defective and needs to be detached and replaced; and so forth. As such, vehicle and tracker relationships can be defined from the:

The following sections outline steps for each of these above options.
Vehicles Tab
Attach
There may be rare instances when a vehicle is no longer attached to an asset tag (tracker) in the
Cognosos system. Vehicles and tags must be paired in the system for the RTLS to properly locate the asset. From the Vehicles tab in My Lot either place a checkmark next to a specific vehicle or leave all the checkboxes blank (no selection) and click Attach from the Vehicles menu.
The Tracker Attachment pop up window will open. If there was a vehicle selection from the Vehicles tab, the vehicle ID will auto-populate in the Vehicle ID field. If no vehicle was selected, both fields will be blank.
If the selected tracker has a status of nonresponsive, the system will display a warning in the Tracker Attachment window. Correct any issues with the tracker so it is responsive to continue or use a different tracker.
Next, the system opens the Tracker Attachment details window for inputting additional details about the vehicle. Scroll down to access all the available fields. Use the drop-down lists or type input values for vehicle details if needed. Vehicle details help to ensure that vehicles can be easily located using a variety of attributes and identifying information. The more details, the easier it is to locate the vehicle and to track data that may impact business operations.
Select Done to complete the input or Skip to cancel adding any details. Please note, skip does not un-attach the tracker, it merely omits this step.
When complete, the vehicle/tracker information is updated across the portal.
Detach
Similarly, to detach a tracker, select a vehicle from the Vehicles table and select Detach from the menu. The system allows only one vehicle-tracker detachment at a time so a single selection must be made. Otherwise, the button will remain grayed out.
This operation removes the relationship between the tracker and the vehicle. The Tracker ID field in the Vehicle Detachment pop window will be populated with the tracker number for the vehicle selected.
Select Detach to continue the process or Cancel to disregard the action. Once detached, that tracker will appear in the portal with a status of Not Attached. Unless a different tracker is attached to the vehicle, the automobile can no longer send location and important information to the portal.
Vehicle Details
A tracker may be detached directly from the Vehicle Details page. Access this page via the Map or My Lot. Using either option, open Vehicle Details for the vehicle and tracker that need to be
detached from one another. From the Vehicle Details page select Detach Tracker.
The Vehicle Detachment pop up window opens. Select Detach to continue or Cancel to return to the Vehicle Details window without making changes. The vehicle can no longer be tracked if and until a new tracker attachment assignment is made.
Trackers Tab
This section covers the specific operation of attaching and detaching trackers through the Trackers tab. For full information on the functionality available on the Trackers tab.
Open the Trackers tab to view all trackers. You may also use filter or search to locate a specific device.
To attach a tracker to a vehicle, select Attach from the Tracker menu with either no tracker selected or a specific tracker selected (place a checkmark next to Tracker ID).
In the Tracker Attachment pop up window input proper values into the Tracker ID (if no tracker selected) and Vehicle ID fields.
To detach a tracker, locate and select the appropriate tracker from the Trackers list. Click Detach in the Tracker menu. One and only one tracker must be selected or the Detach button will remain grayed out.
The system auto populates the Tracker ID in the Vehicle Detachment pop-up window.
The system returns a confirmation message and the tracker status changes to not attached. Once
detached, that tracker and vehicle will no longer be connected for location services and data gathering purposes. The vehicle detached from the tracker can no longer register data to the portal until a new tracker attachment is made.
